Our academic and medical school research organization was originally founded in 2008 as Neuroscience Campus Amsterdam (for VU Medical Center and University) and in 2016 re-launched as Amsterdam Neuroscience (for the entire Amterdam region). It represents a modern research network organization where patients, medical professionals, scientists, students and external partners assemble to create a ‘hub’ in the neuroscience community.
Amsterdam Neuroscience conducts research regarding brain function and brain-disease mechanisms through an integrative approach where clinical expertise and scientific knowledge is bundled. The annual research budget is more than €75 million, of which more than 50% is acquired in competitive, merit-based research funding from outside the campus.
